Welcome to the World of the Useful Plants
This project gives an overview of the more than 400 most important species of useful higher plants. It is made for educational purposes and for everybody interested in this subject without having the pretention of being complete or even taxonomic correct. Illustrations of plant specimens, parts of plants or products, crops in the field, supplemented with short informative texts about the history, origin and distribution of the plant and the use of it is given in the Species module. The various possible uses and suggestions for the educational use are described in the Introduction, with hyperlinks to the species descriptions in the Species module. An illustrated identification key gives the user easy acces to the most used plants.
The illustrations used are made by the author in various places around the world. Many local markets in India, Indonesia, East Africa and West Africa, America and in Europe were visited for this purpose. Also many farmers yards, cultivation fields, green houses, plantages and botanical gardens in tropical and temperate regions were visited. Over 1300 pictures were selected from this wealth of material to illustrate this site.
