Description
A family of mainly woody climbers most occurring in tropical America (Bignoniaceae 1).
The leaves are pinnate and opposite. The flowers are showy (Bignoniaceae 2), borne in cymose clusters, zygomorphic, with 5 fused sepals and petals, 2-4 stamens and a superior ovary. The fruit is usually a capsule.
There are over 100 genera.

Use
The Genus Crescentia provides the calabash, not to be confused with the bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) which belongs to the Cucumber family.
