Description
A family mostly of twining herbs, but with some trees and shrubs occurring in temperate and tropical regions (Convolvulaceae 1).
The leaves are alternate, usually simple. The flowers are regular, with 5 sepals and a funnel shaped corolla with 5 lobes. There are 5 stamens fixed to the corolla tube. The ovary is superior. The fruit is usually a capsule.
There are about 50 genera.

Use
The Genus Ipomoea provides the sweet potato in many varieties as well as water spinach.
