Cherimoya
Family Annonaceae
Annona cherimolia, cherimoya (A. cherimolia 1), is a small deciduous tree with alternate simple leaves and reddish flowers, occurring at higher altitudes in the Andean region. It was known already in prehistoric Peru. The fruit is globose to heart-shaped, with a scaly surface, up to 15 cm, and has a pineapple flavour. Fruits (A. cherimolia 2) are eaten fresh and used in ice cream.
Use
To a very limited extent cherimoyas are imported in Western Europe, but the poor keeping qualities have prevented popularisation.
