Nasturtium officinale, watercress (N. officinale 1) , is an aquatic perennial herb with hollow stems, 10-60 cm long, and white flowers.
Use
Watercress is native to Central and South Europe and western Asia. It came into cultivation as a commercial crop in the 19th century and is now introduced into many parts of the world. The tips of the leafy stems and young leaves (N. officinale 2) are eaten as a salad and used to garnish dishes. It may also be eaten cooked as a vegetable.
