Trigonella foenum-graecum, fenugreek (T. foenum-graecum 1), is an annual herb, up to 60 cm high, with trifoliate leaves, white flowers and curved and beaked pods, containing brownish furrowed seeds (T. foenum-graecum 3).

Distribution and use
Fenugreek is of Mediterranean origin and has been used medicinally since ancient times. Today it is much cultivated in India, where the fresh plant is eaten as a vegetable (T. foenum-graecum 2) and the seeds are used in curries. Ground seeds are used in confectionery.
