Portulaca oleracea

Purslane

Family Portulacaceae

Portulaca oleracea, purslane (P. oleracea 1), is an annual herb, 30-50 cm tall, with single fleshy leaves and small yellow flowers.

Distribution and use
Purslane is native to Europe. The succulent leaves are a little sourish because of the presence of oxalic acid, and are used as a vegetable since ancient times. In South Europe the leaves are used in salads.
