Rosa canina, the dog rose (R. canina 1), is a wild prickly rose with compound leaves with serrated leaflets, and pink flowers. The fruit or rose hip is the urn-shaped receptacle, with numerous achenes enclosed in it.
Distribution and use
The dog rose is a native of Europe and Asia and is the most common of the wild roses in Europe. Rose hips, which are very rich in vitamin C, are collected from wild plants to make syrup and jam. In Holland they are grown commercially.
