Lime

Family Rutaceae

Citrus aurantifolia, lime (C. aurantifolia 1), is one of the smallest Citrus species, with yellowish-green fruits, about 4 cm across (C. aurantifolia 2). It is a small tree, up to 5 m tall, usually with short, sharp spines. The small flowers are borne in axillary inflorescences. The fruit contains very acid green pulp and small seeds.

Use
Lime is extensively used in the tropics for its fresh juice and for flavouring foods. Commercial products include lime juice and marmalade. Lime oil, prepared from the peel, is used in the food industry and in cosmetics.
