Kumquat
Family Rutaceae
Fortunella margarita (= Citrus margarita), the kumquat (F. margarita 1), is an evergreen shrub, 3-4 m high, with simple leaves and small oval orange fruits (F. margarita 2), about 2-3 cm in diameter, with acid pulp and green seeds (F. margarita 3).
Distribution and use
The kumquat is widely cultivated in China and Japan. Because of its cold resistance, the kumquat can be grown further north than any of the other Citrus species.
The whole fruit is eaten, usually preserved in syrup or candied.
